Growing up this was the place to go, but then it was called Jr's. Pretty much everything is the same minus the name. I'm not really sure what they do to the hot dogs, but it is amazing. Whenever I go and visit my parents, I can't help but stop by Widen's on 143rd and get a hot dog. It would be a sin not to get at least one!!! I have yet to find a place that has a hot dog that compares to theirs! If your ever out in the southwest 'burbs- try it!

A great place for the all American hot dog. The 2 dogs and fries combo is delicious and at a great price. We've getting this treat for 20 years. Enjoy.

Not only did they screw up what I wanted, they screwed up the screw up they made. Wow! Double the mess. The food was pretty good but the staff really made us feel like we were an inconvenience to them. I will give these guys another shot somewhere down the road, Every place has a bad day from time to time. I am hoping that this was one of them

Well first off, its not pure beef dog so that's why its only 2 stars. Anyone giving this more likes to eat the veal, chicken dogs or like I like to call the bologna type dogs. Pale looking dogs. They had great fries, great fresh onions and ingredients for the dogs, and the bun was the non poppy seed type, which is ok but steamed nicely. Just don't call theirs a Chicago hotdog stand. I would give 4 stars if they were all beef style, Vienna, or some other pure beef Chicago dog. It tasted ok, but I will not be back because you just don't know what goes into a non pure beef dog. Sorry, I really wanted to like it. Orland still does not have a true Chicago Hotdog stand.

Don's Hot Dogs/Widen's Hot Dogs - 3 Stars: I think these guys used to be all one in the same (called Jr's), but troubles split up the operations and forced new names. They remain pretty much the same kind of hot dog palace ... nice three star hot dogs and fries. The regular hot dog is sort of a turkey/veal kind of dog, and not an all-beef kind that you'd get at the ballpark (although those are available). The hot dogs are usually boiled and not grilled. Nice dog though, and they offer ones with fewer calories (lights). A ton of different toppings to customize your dogs and these are very nice. Never tried the burgers - a wise man once told me to stick with a restaurants specialty ... you go to a hot dog place you order the hot dog ... so I always get hot dogs here. Fries and cheese fries are nice too - they are plain and simple with no fancy cheese toppings. We eat at both of these often and they really are interchangeable - good and fast hot dog places. Don's @ 151st off Harlem + @ Wolf Road off 179th, and Widen's @ 143rd off LaGrange. This is the middle child of the three outlets - in a little strip mall just east of LaGrange Road on 143rd Street. This outlet probably has the most seating, a row of tables inside with a counter facing out the window. No outdoor seating. For dessert - go next door to the Cupid Candies ice cream and candy store.

I've been coming to this place for years and I do love it. The cheese fries with cheese whiz is great. All the food there is good. The staff is ok, but the food keeps me coming back.

Great hot dog joint. The actual hot dogs may not be what you're used to but they will surprise you with how delicious they are. Everything on the menu is made very well, burgers are great! I have been coming here for probably over 10-12 years (when it was Jrs). I can't write a review though without stating "you HAVE to get the cheese fries!!".

My stomach and I often have "Why the hell did you eat that?" conversations, but they usually involved free foods or foods that cost 50 cents. This one cost a bit more. I paid $6 for two hot dogs, fries and a Pepsi and emerged with one of the worst bellyaches I've ever had. Widen's does a good job of dressing the dogs up, but at their core, they're just boiled, cheap versions of quality sausage. After eating at several Chicago sausage joints, I've been spoiled with red hots that are (surprise!) red. These dogs were a pale gray and left me feeling icky. On top of that, the guy behind the counter was gruff and forceful, even though no one else was in line. I think I was a bit "metro" for his tastes. Anyway, one perk: lots of old ladies hang out in this joint, and they were adorable. One came in and ordered a single hot dog, no peppers, for her "take-home supper." I wanted to squeeze her dry.
